The story of this law firm

As one of the world’s leading law firms, this Magic Circle firm was undertaking a large-scale global brand refresh designed to modernise and align its identity across key international markets. With the project spanning multiple geographies, it was essential to appoint experienced leaders who could oversee delivery locally while maintaining consistency with the global vision. 

Given the confidential nature of the transformation, the firm needed a trusted recruitment partner who could operate on a global scale.  

Challenge: Identifying brand leaders across the UK and USA

The initial requirement was to appoint an Interim Brand Leader based in London, responsible for overseeing the UK element of the transformation and maintaining momentum during a critical phase of change. This role required deep experience in brand implementation, complex stakeholder environments, and large-scale transformation projects. 

Following the success of the London hire, the firm then engaged us to support a second search — this time for a permanent Brand Implementation Project Manager based in New York. This role was central to embedding the refreshed brand across the North American market and ensuring alignment with the global strategy. 

Both searches were conducted under NDA and required discretion, precision, and speed. 

Solution: Specialist headhunters to lead on each search

The London search was led by Matthew Stevenson, who worked closely with senior stakeholders to fully understand the scope, sensitivities, and expectations of the project. Matthew delivered a tightly curated shortlist of high-calibre interim specialists, enabling the firm to appoint a candidate with the credibility and experience to lead the UK implementation. 

Following this, Andrew Stoves led the US-based search, partnering with the firm’s North American leadership team to refine the brief and identify candidates with strong brand delivery experience in complex, global organisations. Once again, a well-screened shortlist was presented, allowing the business to move confidently and secure the right permanent hire in New York. 

Across both searches, our focus was on quality, discretion, and alignment. This ensured that candidates were not only capable of delivering the work, but also able to operate effectively within a Magic Circle environment. 

Result: Successful global brand refresh

The firm successfully appointed two key hires, one in London and one in New York, giving them the leadership and delivery capability required to execute a cohesive, internationally aligned brand transformation.
